Benefits of Paripurna Navasana or Boat Pose during the holidays!

How pleasant is it to waken on New Year's Day without that feeling of overindulgence?

IT IS VERY PLEASANT.. But. .....we are VERY human and we are not always moderate in food and drink and work and play and rest and seek.

SO our haven is the BOAT. Paripurna Navasana. The Boat Pose.

What exactly does it do? It isn't easy to balance with sails (legs) fully unfurled (straightened out). So what does it do?

BOAT improves digestion. What better time of the year than to master an asana that helps with our digestive tract when we are experiencing so many new and traditional foods. How lucky are we to have such abundance to experience these.

BOAT strengthens our spines. Need help carrying in that tree? Not if Boat is part of your daily regimen.

BOAT pulls in that belly!!!! Who doesn't need that during the winter cozy holiday months?

BOAT makes our hips more open. Our hips are the container of our emotions. No better time of year than now to open up and share in the bounty of good friends, family and forgiveness.

BOAT detoxifies our innards. Not that we should, but when we do, the boat is there for the rescue.

Think of the BOAT pose now and all the benefits it can do for us today and each day moving forward into the new year!

Natural Holiday Cookie Decorating...Tip #1

Holiday decorating can be SO natural.....think close to the earth and your kitchen cabinet. Think about the shapes and textures and colors that delicious things we love to eat possess and use them before considering buying artificial icings and sugary embellishments.

So many herbs that you have in your garden are still growing-cut some sprigs for greenery for your baked goods. For example: Create a broomstick out of a rosemary sprig.

Shelled almonds are great for noses, eyes, hats, mittens depending on how the almond is cut. Be creative and add food coloring to the almonds; a slivered almond painted with orange dye quickly transforms into a "carrot nose."

Coconut is great for snow.. see our Navasana Snow Angel

Dried cranberries-whole the make wonderful noses for Rudolph or buttons for Santa, roll them out with a rolling pin and cut, they can be ANYTHING. Take a look at the star on top of the Vrksasana tree pose cutter.......

What a great way to create the fantasy without sacrificing your good eating habits.
